  • My son really likes these goggles. He has an adult pair and finds them comfortable. They are supposed to fit on adults so that would normal about the size. He likes the fact that they have a hard plastic so that he can wear them in the gym and if they get hit they won't break. He isn't using them at this time but he uses them a lot when he plays racquetball.
  • I went shopping for a pair of racquetball goggles and I wasn't sure which to choose. I'm so glad to have found this great pair. They are comfortable and fit my face well. The lenses protect my eyes and they are the right size. I'm very happy with my purchase.

Racquetball players are exposed to a double whammy of high impact as they experience high levels of velocity plus a heavy ball. This can tear up your eyes pretty severely. Which is why you need a pair of quality, sport-specific goggles to protect your eyes from these potentially devastating impacts.

Since everyone’s face and eyes are different, the universal, one size fits most approach may not always be a perfect fit. That’s why I recommend the Unique Racket Specs Eye Guard with Lens.

The unique shape of this eye guard is especially designed to fit your own face and provide a comfortable and close fit. The frame also features a soft silicone gasket that helps adhere the guard to your face. While their primary purpose is to guard against scratches, they serve as a great backup in case a stray ball hits your eyes.

The lenses of the glasses are polycarbonate and scratch-resistant. In order to protect against ball impact, they are made of a strong and flexible UVEX material called Thermo-R. The frame is made from light weight and sturdy metal, and includes soft silicone ear-pads for comfort.

There’s a cool design at the side of the nosepiece that will show the type of glasses you’re wearing. The design includes the brand logo and the words –Protective Glasses”, while other versions include a checkerboard, and floral nosepiece designs.

8. Ektelon Speed Eyewear

  • Very well-made and durable
  • Comes with plastic case and cleaning cloth
  • Cost effective

I researched quite a few different goggles before deciding on the Ektelon Speed Eyewear for racquetball. I loved how they felt on my face, and the comfort to weight ratio is great. The silicon strap is very comfortable and doesn’t rub. The thicker strap with silicone lining is well constructed and stays put well during match play.

The ventilation is great, as the goggle flows enough air to keep my face from getting too sweaty. When I took them off, the sides of my face where the goggle’s arms connect to the frame were soaking wet but there wasn’t any sweat on the lens.

My main concern was performance, and the goggle passed that test with flying colors. I played a pick-up game and they provided a clear field of vision, and because the lens is so big I never had a problem with sweat running into my eyes like I have with other goggle models I’ve tried.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Do you need goggles for racquetball?

Playing racquetball effectively requires good eye protection. Though you might think you aren't that great at the game, it is still common to get hit in the eye by a stray object. Rubber balls suck, there's no other way to put it. They bounce off your racquet and hit you in the eye. There are also all sorts of eye problems associated with playing the game. Goggles can help prevent these injuries.

As a rule, you're going to want to invest in a pair of racquetball goggles. The problem is that a lot of them suck. This is because racquetball goggles are usually made of two small pieces of foam that don't protect adequately and nothing else. We think these are a false economy and a waste of money. The best goggles will go over the ears, offer nose protection, and have side flaps to ensure your cheeks are completely covered.

How do you keep racquetball goggles from fogging up?

Fogging can be an issue with these masks if you’re sweating a lot. A good way to prevent fogging is to clean your goggles whenever you play. You should also use a sweatband on the forehead to keep perspiration out of your eyes.

If you’re still having trouble with perspiration, there are some good anti-fog solutions on the market. These products help to prevent moisture from reaching the inside of the facemask. The best racquetball goggles will have ventilation on the interior to help prevent fogging.

Do professional squash players wear goggles?

Yes, definitely.

It was only in the 1970s, that squash players started wearing goggles to shield their eyes from the sweat that would accumulate on their eyeglasses. Believe it or not, it's true. Just check out the players in the 1972 Men's Championship squash game. Look closely and you'll see some of them wearing the protective eyewear.

Why don't squash players wear protective eyewear today?

Originally, goggles were only used in the professional games and not in the amateur tournaments. Some players might have still used goggles during matches, but they weren't required to do so. Eventually, all of the top players started wearing them consistently. That was when protective eyewear became the norm. Today, if you play in a professional tournament, you've got to wear goggles.

So why do some players still use them in the amateur gyms?

What are the best safety goggles?

Goggles are one of the most important safety accessories to use when playing racquetball. Don’t ever play without them. Goggles are recommended for all players, but especially for players who play regularly and for people who are over 40 years old. They’ll help protect your eyes from face and eye injuries.
